Two urgent operations to save two young men in Najran

A medical team specializing in heart diseases and another in emergency medicine managed to save the lives of two young men and perform an urgent surgical intervention that took (5) hours, and they were crowned with success. A young man suffers from difficulty breathing as a result of a congenital deformity in the heart due to an arterial link between the aorta and the pulmonary valve, which led to an enlarged heart and muscle weakness. Clinical examinations confirmed the presence of a circular membrane under the aortic valve, which led to severe regurgitation in the aortic and mitral valves. As a result, it was decided to perform an open-heart surgery. Through which the arterial shunt was closed, the membrane under the aortic valve was removed, and the aortic and mitral valves were repaired in a qualitative and rare medical procedure.

The medical team was also able to deal with the second case that arrived at the emergency department at Habbona General Hospital as a life-saving case after he was involved in a traffic accident while he was suffering from severe abdominal pain due to internal bleeding in the spleen, which was revealed by clinical examinations, so that the doctors decided immediately to perform a surgical intervention to stop the bleeding and remove it. The spleen, which contributed to stabilizing the case and transferring it to the inpatient department for follow-up treatment until the young man was discharged from the hospital in good health.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health in Najran, through King Khalid Hospital and Habbouna General Hospital, provided curative, ambulatory and preventive services to (524057) beneficiaries during the past year 2022 AD, including 240391 clinic patients and 188329 emergency patients, performing 6737 surgeries and providing services to 2225 beneficiaries in inpatient departments.
