The Electricity and Water Authority announced the auction of the sale and dismantling of the Sitra power and water station in cooperation with the auction company, one of the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company “Mumtalakat” companies. This step comes to support the authority’s directions aimed at moving the progress of national projects, improving the quality of government services, and improving their efficiency and effectiveness through developing new partnerships and innovative solutions to develop the services provided by the authority. This cooperation reflects the importance of the role of the auction company, one of the leading companies in the field of organizing and supervising public and electronic auctions in the Kingdom. and achieving its sustainability in line with Mumtalakat’s strategy.

The station includes many installations and equipment, including 6 desalination distillers with a total capacity of 25 million gallons per day, 6 steam boilers, in addition to 4 steam turbines and their generators with a capacity of 25 megawatts each, a gas turbine with a capacity of 25 megawatts, two gas reduction stations and pumps of different sizes. , and a number of transformers, switches and electrical cables. The buyer will be responsible for dismantling all plant equipment, removing structures and foundations for all production units and their ancillaries, as well as providing the tools and machinery needed to carry out this project.

It is worth noting that the Sitra station continued to operate and produce for more than 40 years before it was stopped from operating in February 2021, after new and modern stations were opened with a larger capacity, as the first phase of the Sitra station for the production of electricity and water began operating in 1975 with a production capacity of 100 Megawatts of electricity and 5 million gallons of distilled water per day. In 1984, the second phase was introduced by adding 25 megawatts of electric power, in addition to 5 million gallons of distilled water. In 1985, the third phase of the station was inaugurated by adding three other distillates to add 15 million distilled water to the daily production of the station. Thus, the production capacity of the Sitra station for the production of electricity and water desalination reached its peak to reach the production of 125 megawatts of electrical energy and an average of 25 million gallons per day of desalinated water. .

The Electricity and Water Authority indicated that this partnership with “Mzad” aims to offer a project to sell and dismantle the Sitra power and water station for bidding, after it continued to operate for more than 40 years of productivity, and we aspire through this project to improve the quality of government services and improve their efficiency and effectiveness, and that this partnership It will support access to a larger base of investors based on digital advantages that include flexibility, integrity and ease.
